Figma has announced a major feature update that expands its design tools' reach to AI agents and developers. Key features of this announcement include remote access support for the MCP server and integration with the AI app builder Figma Make, significantly improving the efficiency of code generation and product development based on Figma designs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MCP server previously served as a gateway for design system and code structure information, previously used only within Figma, to external development tools and AI models. With this update, the MCP server now operates remotely, allowing access to Figma design context from browser-based models, AI coding agents, and integrated development environments. This eliminates the need to rely solely on the desktop app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MCP server now supports Figma Make files. This allows AI models to understand and analyze the actual code structure, not just rendered visuals, allowing for reuse at the file level or reference to logic and design patterns. This feature is already available on major partner platforms such as Anthropic, Cursor, Windsurf, and VS Code, and integration with third-party MCP servers for Figma Make is also in the works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Code Connect feature has also been improved. Previously, linking code and design components required manual configuration in the CLI, but now you can map them directly within the Figma interface. This allows you to see at a glance which code components are connected to, improving AI-powered code generation accuracy and exploration speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the future, the MCP server will evolve beyond one-way transmission to include a two-way connection that brings external code context back into Figma. This is expected to enable more realistic prototyping and reduce code rewriting and duplication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, starting November 17th, Figma will introduce pre-screening for MCP clients and third-party integrations, and will also adjust usage limits for its REST API. These measures, designed to ensure both platform scalability and stability, will only impact users with a minimum 1% user base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of these features are currently in beta, and Figma is preparing for general availability. By defining all design artifacts\u2014design systems, interactive prototypes, annotated mockups, and auto-generated code\u2014as "active assets," Figma is evolving beyond a simple design tool into a "design hub for all development processes."<\/p>\n\n\n\n
