British fintech company Revolut is starting to operate its own brand of ATMs in earnest, starting with Spain. Spain has been selected as the pilot country for this project, and 50 machines will be installed initially, mainly in Madrid and Barcelona, and will then be expanded to major cities such as Valencia and Malaga, increasing the total number to around 200.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These ATMs are available to both Revolut users and the general public, and are installed in major tourist destinations and in urban areas with high traffic volumes. Users can check the location of the ATM, operating hours, and directions through the map function in the Revolut app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This project is a result of the fact that Spain still has a high proportion of cash usage. Revolut has about 5 million subscribers in Spain, who actively use functions such as savings, Bizum-based transfers, and tax payments. By adding offline touchpoints through ATMs, we plan to increase brand trust and attract new customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Unlike traditional ATMs, Revolut ATMs offer a digital-first user experience. Users can withdraw cash, check their account balance, receive a new card, and even open an account and issue a physical card right at the ATM, all with an intuitive interface via a touchscreen up to 32 inches in size. It also includes contactless withdrawals via mobile wallets, multilingual support, and screen adjustment functions, and will gradually expand to include facial recognition-based identity verification and cash deposit functions in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The biggest advantage for Revolut customers is that they can withdraw cash without fees both domestically and internationally. Revolut\u2019s preferential exchange rate is also applied when withdrawing foreign currency, which can be particularly attractive to foreign tourists. Non-members can also use ATMs, and while the customer\u2019s own bank exchange rate will be applied initially, a real-time currency exchange function that allows the customer to select the Revolut exchange rate will be introduced in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While the ATM infrastructure has remained unchanged for a long time, Revolut is actively pursuing a strategy to strengthen its position as a digital bank through innovation in the physical space. After this Spanish pilot, it plans to gradually expand to major European countries such as Germany, Italy, and Portugal after 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
