The Seoul Metropolitan Government is completely reorganizing its 'single route map' for the first time in 40 years to improve the convenience of subway users. Seoul City changed the entire subway route map in September 23rd.<\/a>The new single route map also features the same design language and has been accompanied by a variety of detailed images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A single route map is a guide map that shows each line separately, and includes station names, transfer routes, and information on convenience facilities. However, the existing route map was not intuitive in terms of key information such as location, direction, and local government boundaries, and the legend and notation method were not unified, which caused inconvenience to first-time travelers and the elderly. Foreign language notation and station numbers were also insufficient, so there were limitations in guiding tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This revision was created based on advice from visual, color, and information design experts. The new route map is available in three formats: horizontal, vertical, and square (attached to safety gates), and the color contrast has been increased so that even color-blind people can easily distinguish them. Transfer routes are expressed in the form of traffic lights, and station numbers and multilingual notation have also been strengthened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have improved the ability to convey geographical information by visualizing representative geographical elements of Seoul such as the Han River, local government boundaries, and junctions, and have added fun by displaying major landmarks such as Seoul City Hall, DDP, and Namsan Seoul Tower with 14 types of pictograms. Related goods are also being developed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this reorganization, Seoul City introduced for the first time its own developed font, \u2018Seoul Notification\u2019. It is a font with natural curves and connecting structures reminiscent of handwriting, helping to make even small station names easy to read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
