An exhibition by Thomas Heatherwick, a designer and architect called the British Leonardo da Vinci, will be held at Culture Station Seoul 284 from June 26th to September 6th. Thirty representative works of Heatherwick Studio, established in 1994, will be exhibited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition, which will be held sequentially in Tokyo and Seoul, was curated by Mami Kataoka, an international curator at Heyard Gallery in London, Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, and Sum Project, a contemporary art exhibition planning office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thomas Heatherwick designed the 'Vessel' at Hudson Yards, often referred to as New York's Eiffel Tower. It is a public sculpture in the shape of a pine cone made of copper plate. Opened in 2019, it consists of 2,500 stair steps, and its jungle gym-like structure has become a hot topic as a public observatory. It was designed with the expectation of becoming a meeting place and observatory for people to gather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seed Cathedral is also famous for its amazing architecture at the 2010 Shanghai Expo. In order to express the 'future of the city', the people who compose the future are expressed as seeds. It was a structure made to look like a dandelion by putting seeds in 60,000 thin transparent rods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Various project drawings, models, and prototypes are exhibited, from Little Island, an artificial island in New York, Bayview, Google's new headquarters, and 'Soundscape' to Nodeul Island in the Han River. You can also experience the 'Humanize' section, which can only be found in the Seoul exhibition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has been 7 years since the exhibition at D Museum in 2016. It is expected to be an exhibition where you can closely observe the creative process of Heatherwick, who designs in various fields from architecture, sculpture, product, and fashion. In particular, I'm curious about the designer's thought process for designing useful and beautiful buildings based on deep insights into the way people relate to cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It's nice to see that the strange chair next to the escalator from the Incheon Airport subway station to the airport was Thomas Heatherwick's work, Spun-Hula! It is also open every Friday from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM for office workers.
