The studio reviewed the evolution of the 20th-century Redheads wordmark, taking the visual language of the late 1960s and early 1970s as a reference point. This was a time when the grid-based thinking of Swiss Modernism was spreading to mass packaging design. It was also a period when Redheads was moving away from decorative scripts and traditional serifs toward simpler, more functional forms. Oliver Grace used these historical clues as a practical standard to address current packaging system issues.

At the center of the new packaging stands a large, bold wordmark composed of Blaze Type's Fusion Grotesk. To create a consistent impression across various product sizes and proportions, the product name, quantity, weight, internal product render, and feature icons are all placed within a common grid. While the brand's iconic Ms. Redheads has been simplified once again, her hair—a key element—has become a more active graphic device. The hair flows in a flame-like form across the bottom of the package, with its size and position adjusted to match the proportions of each product. Rather than completely overhauling the brand character, this approach refines it to suit current shelf and online environments while protecting the brand's recognizable assets.

The strength of this system lies not merely in aesthetic order. Because matches and fire starters are flammable products, even the back of small packages must include warnings, disposal instructions, and legal notices. Oliver Grace designed the layout to incorporate this complex information into a grid, ensuring that the brand recognition on the front does not conflict with the legal information on the back. The new DTC website follows the same principle. Large typography, a strong grid, and curves and flame-like movements inspired by Ms. Redheads' hair translate the language of packaging into a digital experience. Redheads' new identity does not simply replicate nostalgia. It is an example of organizing the brand DNA of red, Ms. Redheads, and the grid into a modern system that extends to matchboxes, websites, and merchandise.

More and Sources

https://olivergrace.com.au/work/redheads/

[3264
post-63744","archive","type-archive","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","dsncategory-3264
],"publishpress_future_workflow_manual_trigger":
["GET
